Writing a message: to a friend or politely
A short message or an email in French: greeting, content and closing. To a friend with tu and Bisous, politely with vous and Cordialement.
Why
You are ill and want to email your French teacher. You start with Salut Madame and finish with Bisous. What will she think?
You write messages every day: to a friend you invite, to an exchange partner in Namur, to a youth hostel for a class trip or to your teacher. In French the tone depends a lot on who you are writing to.
To a friend you write casually: Salut Hugo, tu, À bientôt. To an adult you do not know well, you write politely: Bonjour Madame, vous, Bien à vous. Mix them up and your message sounds odd or even rude.
