Reading for the gist: understanding without knowing every word
Understanding a French text without knowing every word: read the title, the first and the last sentence, look for the key words and the words that look like Dutch.
Why
A leaflet in Namur has a text of six sentences about le marché du samedi. You do not know every word. Do you have to look everything up?
No. To know what a text is about, you do not need to know every word. That goes for a leaflet, a website, a sign in a museum or a message from an exchange partner.
Many French words look like Dutch or English: le marché, le chocolat, la classe, visiter, le musée. Together with the title and the words that come back, you quickly know what it is about. Only then do you look for the details.
